Who Is The Real Threat to Democracy?

America is a Constitutional Republic, but with aspects of democracy throughout the system. Sometimes, we vote on ballot initiatives based on petitions. This is direct democracy. When we vote on representatives, we exercise democracy by electing officials who can govern using their own best judgment for the benefit of the people.

Democracy cannot be protected without free and fair elections to ensure voters can choose a new leader or fire an existing one who has failed them. A fair and open process, decided by the voters, is what the country was designed to do. But there are threats to that process – where insiders are taking the choice away from the people.

For example, the majority of Michigan voters elected Joseph Biden to be the Democrat Party presidential nominee on Feb. 27, 2024. Yet, the Democrat Party permitted a small group of elite delegates to substitute in a different candidate during a virtual roll call vote that resulted with Kamala Harris becoming the presumptive democrat presidential nominee on July 30, 2024.

After Biden ended his presidential run, wouldn't the most democratic choice have been for the 2nd most vote getter campaigning for the Democrat Party's presidential nomination to have became the presumptive nominee instead of Harris being anointed with the position? The voice of millions of voters was ignored so the Elites could have their preferred choice. There should be no expectation of the person who was elected by ignoring the will of the people would govern with the people's interests in mind.

The presidential nomination of Harris is unusual, yet it does not seem to be a big topic of conversation in the press. An honest and fair media would have covered this story at nauseam.  And that coverage would debate the potential threat to democracy. Why didn’t the votes of the people matter? Why was the process dictated by a handful of insiders? Who called the shots to engineer this massive shift in Democrat leadership? These are all questions that should be asked, but instead, the unfair media carries water for undemocratic actions.

As voters, it is imperative that we weigh in on the significance of something that can alter the way we choose a President for generations to come. It is not likely that a President who could not be bothered to participate in the entire democratic process as a candidate will place the interests of the American people above their own. Our interests will not be prioritized by a career politician when that politician owes the insiders who put them in that position many favors once they become President.

Supporting a candidate that received zero votes in the primary is a true threat to democracy.  Other threats include refusing other Democrat candidates to run under their own party like RFK Jr. or Marianne Williamson, weaponizing the justice system to jail candidates and their supporters from the opposition party just to muddy their names, and attempting to assassinate the overall leading candidate to prevent them from winning a race as with President Donald Trump.

It is obvious where the real threat to democracy is coming from, and it is clearly from the Democrats. A free and fair is only possible when the general public is involved in the process to make sure everything is run smoothly.
